Intellectual Property Attorney

Hello!

I’m Mallory King, an intellectual property attorney based in my hometown of Traverse City, Michigan. It is great to meet you.

After practicing general intellectual property law for seven years, I carved out a niche in brand protection and took the solo leap in 2022, founding Breathe Brand Protection, PLLC (Breathe.Law). For the next four years, Breathe.Law was my little corner of the legal world—and one of the most rewarding chapters of my career.

I built Breathe.Law around a simple idea: protecting a business’s most valuable brand assets doesn’t have to be complicated or impersonal. I wanted to practice law in a way that felt thoughtful, practical, and human, while building genuine relationships with the people behind the brands I represented. Guided by the pillars of authenticity, transparency, and reliability, I am immensely proud of everything I accomplished as a solo practitioner.

That work became what I called brand protection—an intersection of trademark, copyright, and contract law. A brand name or logo may be protected through trademark; original creative works and other content may be protected through copyright; and contracts help define, preserve, and enforce those rights through things like licenses, NDAs, and other agreements. Together, these areas form the foundation of brand law.

Over the years, I had the privilege of helping entrepreneurs, small businesses, creatives, and growing companies protect the things they worked so hard to build. I helped clients register and enforce trademarks, navigate copyright questions, negotiate contracts and licenses, address infringement and cybersquatting, and so much more.

New Beginnings

After four wonderful years of Breathe.Law, I’m changing directions. Breathe Brand Protection, PLLC is no longer operating as a separate law firm, but I’m not leaving the work that I love. I’m now continuing my intellectual property practice at Kuhn Rogers PLC, where I’m able to bring the experience I built through Breathe.Law to a broader full-service law firm while continuing to work with clients of all sizes.

And as for the name? “Breathe” was always meant to be a reminder to pause, take a breath, and keep going. That idea has followed me throughout my legal practice—whether things were exciting, stressful, complicated, or simply moving too fast. After all, sometimes a little room to breathe is exactly what you need to figure out what comes next.

For me, that’s what this next chapter is about: taking a breath, changing direction, and moving forward.

A Little More About Me

I received both my bachelor’s degree and law degree from Michigan State University, graduating 15th in my class from MSU College of Law. I also received the highest grade in both my intellectual property and cyber law classes. Go Green!

Born and raised in beautiful Traverse City, I returned home after law school and have been fortunate enough to build my career here. Outside of practicing law, I enjoy yoga, ballet, bowling, horror movies, cooking, gardening, organizing, and a crisp, bubbly Diet Coke.
